As you may imagine, the issue of addiction is a complex one. While we live in a society that is always looking for that simple answer or fix, the reality is it is rare that is actually the case. There has been an evolution of thought when it comes to addiction, with it originally thought of as a character flaw and more current thoughts revolving around a "disease" model. Some people feel the thought of addiction as a failure of the person still underlies the stigma associated with addiction and continues to influence the way our society approaches the current "Opioid Crisis".
