What the future can hold.....

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The Career Services &
Cooperative Education Office is once again offering credit bearing
internship classes for the fall 2015 semester. If students are
interested, they must send an e-mail message to internships@sunysuffolk.edu. The
message should include: SCCC student identification number, home campus,
and specific career and/or area of interest. Students will receive a response
with regard to eligibility and information session schedules.

IN THE NEWS...
Recently, there have been a number of stories in the news that relate to many of the topics we have discussed in our classes.
First, the following article about Harper Lee, the author of the classic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, has found herself in the middle of a debate about her competency to consent to publishing a new book. Unfortunately, the debate is becoming more and more common in the aging population and this article gives insight into so many of the intricacies and uncertainties associated with these questions and determinations....
On a different note, Chris Borland, an up and coming NFL player, announced his retirement. It is a strong indicator that the continued work to educate and increase awareness about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is having an effect...

BEREAVEMENT
We have had some discussions in class about the difference between a Major Depressive Episode and the process of grieving. The following article goes into more detail about "Complicated Grief" , an area which is getting increasingly more attention from researchers in the mental health field.

A MEDICAL AND INTELELCTUAL MARVEL
ALS, or "Lou Gehrig's Disease", as it is sometimes referred to, is a neurodenerative disorder that has confounded scientists for many years. Stephen Hawking, who has solved so many problems that have confounded other scientists over the years, is an intellectual marvel whom allows a glimpse into the complexities of this motor neuron disease.
