The limits of science...

As you know, technology has allowed us to make great strides in many different sciences, including Psychology. One branch of Psychology, Neuroscience, as the enormous task of studying the brain. While there has been an explosion of knowledge about how the human brain works, much of it facilitated by increases in technology, there is still more that we do not know then we do know. The following article is one of a series (the others are available via the link as well) regarding current studies of the brain.

It illustrates why Neuroscience remains an exciting but challenging discipline and provides ideas of what the future of research on the brain may look like!

Can Video Games fend off Mental Decline?

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/26/magazine/can-video-games-fend-off-mental-decline.html?_r=0

The College’s Office of Media Services recently produced a series of Veterans videos.  The series has seven parts and I believe you will find the content both informational and educational.  In honor of Veterans Day, I invite you to view the videos.

You can access the video series by following these steps:

·         Click on the YouTube logo that appears on the College’s home page on the bottom right-hand side.

·         When the page loads, click on the “View SCCC Videos” link, found in the bottom right corner of the large photo box across the top of the page.

·         Once the video directory loads, scroll to page two and then select “Transitions: Veterans on Campus.”

Human Memory...

A topic that has fascinated Neuroscientists from the beginning has been our memory. Research on memory has been slowly revealing how our memories actually work. The following article is an excellent overview on how our conceptions of human memory have changed.

It is especially recommended for Psy 201 students but all are encouraged to read.

Let me know your thoughts!
